Etsy Seller Fees 2026: Every Fee Explained With Real Examples
Etsy seller fees in 2026, from the listing fee to Offsite Ads and Etsy Plus, verified on Etsy's own policy pages and worked on a real order.
Selling on Etsy in 2026 costs a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee, and a 3% + $0.25 payment processing fee on every order from a US bank account, plus Offsite Ads at 12% or 15% when Etsy's ad network drives the sale. On a $30 item with no shipping charge, that stack runs about 10% of the sale before ads.
Etsy publishes the full breakdown in its Fees & Payments Policy and Etsy Payments Policy, verified on both pages in September 2026. Nothing below is estimated: every figure is the number Etsy states for a US-based shop.
Toolradar data: Toolradar, the software directory we run, evaluated 104 ecommerce platforms for its September 2026 ranking. Etsy is not a platform in that sense, it is a marketplace with a fixed fee schedule, which is why a seller cannot shop around for a cheaper Etsy the way they can compare storefront software.
Etsy fees at a glance
| Fee | Amount | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 per listing | Every listing you publish or auto-renew on Etsy.com, whether or not it sells |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% of item price, shipping, and gift wrap | Every completed sale through Etsy.com |
| Payment processing (US) | 3% + $0.25 per order | Every order paid through Etsy Payments |
| Offsite Ads fee | 15% of the order, or 12% once a shop passes $10,000 in trailing 365-day sales, capped at $100 per order | Only on sales Etsy's ad network drove within 30 days of the click |
| Etsy Plus | $10 per month | Optional subscription; includes 15 listing credits ($3 value) and $5 in Etsy Ads credit each cycle |
| Pattern website | $15 per month after a 30-day free trial | Optional standalone storefront outside Etsy.com |
| Currency conversion | 2.5% of the sale amount | Only when you list in a currency other than your payment account currency |
| Shop set-up fee | Shown and charged during onboarding | One-time; Etsy does not publish a fixed dollar figure and can waive it in promotions |
The listing fee and the transaction fee apply to nearly every seller. Payment processing is unavoidable if you use Etsy Payments, which is how most US shops get paid. Offsite Ads, Etsy Plus, Pattern, and currency conversion only hit you under specific conditions, and two of those four are choices you control rather than costs Etsy imposes on everyone.
The listing fee: $0.20, whether or not it sells
Every item you list on Etsy.com carries that fee, charged when you publish or renew a listing, not when it sells. Listings run for four months and then auto-renew at the same rate unless you switch a listing to manual renewal. List 200 products across a shop and the fee alone adds up to $40 every four months before a single sale, a cost sellers with large, slow-moving catalogs feel more than sellers with a handful of bestsellers.
There is one exception worth knowing: a private listing you create for a custom order only gets charged once it actually sells, not when you create it. If you list the same item in multiple quantities, the first unit is billed on publish and each additional unit only after it sells, so a listing that never moves past the first unit never repeats the charge.
The transaction fee: 6.5% on every sale
Etsy takes 6.5% of the display price, plus whatever you charge for shipping and gift wrapping, on every completed Etsy.com sale. This is the fee that scales with revenue rather than catalog size, so it hits a $200 custom furniture sale far harder in dollar terms than the listing fee ever does. US sellers do not pay the transaction fee on sales tax; sellers outside the US apply it to the tax-inclusive listing price.
A seller who builds shipping into the item price rather than charging it separately still pays the same 6.5% on that shipping amount, baked into the display price instead of broken out. There is no way around this fee short of moving the sale off Etsy, which the marketplace's terms flatly prohibit and will get a shop suspended.
Payment processing: 3% + $0.25 for US sellers
On top of the transaction fee, Etsy charges a payment processing fee for every order run through Etsy Payments. For a US-based bank account, that fee is 3% of the order total, including shipping and tax, plus a flat $0.25. Etsy's own rate table shows this fee varies by country: the UK pays 4% plus £0.20, Canada pays 3% plus a flat amount in CAD, so a US number is not a global one, and a seller who sees a different figure quoted for another country is not looking at a mistake.
Stack the transaction fee and payment processing together and a US seller loses roughly 9.5% of the order total plus a quarter before anything else is subtracted. That combined rate is the number to build into a pricing spreadsheet, not either fee alone. Sellers running an inventory-heavy catalog alongside Etsy, where the same margin math applies per SKU, can carry that combined rate straight into an inventory management sheet.
Offsite Ads: 15% or 12%, and it is not fully optional
Offsite Ads is Etsy buying placement for your listings on other sites, social networks and search engines among them, and charging you only when a buyer clicks that ad and orders from your shop within 30 days. The fee is 15% of the order for shops under $10,000 in trailing 365-day sales, dropping to 12% once a shop crosses that mark, and the lower rate then applies for the life of the shop even if sales dip back below the threshold later. Etsy caps the fee at $100 on any single order, so a $2,000 custom piece does not generate a $300 ad bill.
The part sellers miss: shops under that threshold can opt out of Offsite Ads entirely, but a shop that crosses it cannot opt out again, ever, even if a previous opt-out was on file. That makes the decision a one-way door worth making deliberately rather than defaulting into. A shop still building toward its first big year should decide early whether the extra exposure is worth an eventual 12% it can no longer decline.
Etsy Plus: $10 a month, most of it comes back as credit
Etsy Plus is a monthly subscription that hands back 15 listing credits, worth $3 at the standard per-listing rate, and $5 in Etsy Ads credit every cycle. Do the math and $8 of the fee returns as usable credit, leaving roughly $2 a month for the rest of the Plus toolset. Credits do not roll over, so a shop that skips listing or advertising in a given month loses that portion outright.
Plus makes the most sense for a shop already spending close to that $8 a month on listing fees and Etsy Ads regardless, since the subscription essentially prepays that spend at a small discount. A shop listing fewer than 15 new items a month and running no Etsy Ads is paying for features it will rarely touch.
Pattern: $15 a month for a website outside Etsy
Pattern is Etsy's tool for building a standalone storefront that is not hosted on Etsy.com, and it is free for the first 30 days before the monthly subscription kicks in. Listings you already have on Etsy carry over to Pattern with no extra listing fee, but a Pattern-only listing skips the Etsy.com listing fee entirely since it never appears in the main marketplace. A Pattern site is a separate storefront, not a discount channel: sales made there still route through the same payment processing fee, just without the Etsy.com transaction fee that applies specifically to Etsy.com sales.
Currency conversion: 2.5% if you list off your payment currency
Listing items in a currency different from your Etsy Payments account currency triggers a currency conversion fee on the sale amount, on top of every other fee above. Etsy's own guidance is blunt about it: list in the same currency as your payment account and this fee never applies. A US seller paid in USD who lists in USD never sees this line; the fee only shows up for sellers deliberately or accidentally listing outside their home currency.
A real order, fees included
Take a $30 item with no separate shipping charge, sold by a US shop on Etsy Payments.
| Fee | Calculation | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Item price | $30.00 | |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% of item price | $1.95 |
| Payment processing | 3% of item price, plus a flat $0.25 | $1.15 |
| Core fees before ads | $3.10 | |
| Net to seller, no ads | Item price minus core fees | $26.90 |
That $3.10 is about 10.3% of the sale, before counting the listing fee that was already paid when the item went live, whether or not this particular sale happened. Add Offsite Ads on top and the picture changes fast. If this sale came from an attributed ad click and the shop is under the $10,000 threshold, Offsite Ads adds 15% of the item price, or $4.50, dropping net proceeds to $22.40. A shop already past that mark pays the 12% rate instead, $3.60, for a net of $23.30. Either way, an ad-attributed sale can cost a seller 25% to 27% of the order total once every fee is stacked, a gap sellers who only budget the transaction fee routinely miss.
Should you upgrade to Etsy Plus?
Yes, if the shop is already listing 15 or more new items a month and spending on Etsy Ads, since the credits cover most of the subscription cost anyway. No, if the catalog is small and stable and Etsy Ads is switched off, because there is nothing to redeem the credits against, and unused credit expires every cycle rather than banking for a busier month.
FAQ
How much does it cost to sell on Etsy in 2026, all fees included?
A US seller pays a small flat listing fee, 6.5% of the sale plus shipping as a transaction fee, and 3% plus a quarter for payment processing on every order. That works out to roughly $3.10 in fees on a $30 sale with no shipping charge, about 10.3%. Offsite Ads adds 12% or 15% on top, but only on sales the ad network drove.
What is Etsy's listing fee?
$0.20 per item, charged when you publish or auto-renew a listing, not when it sells. Listings run four months before renewing, and a private listing made for a custom order is only charged once it sells.
How much is Etsy's transaction fee?
6.5% of the item's display price plus whatever you charge for shipping and gift wrapping, taken on every completed Etsy.com sale. US sellers do not pay it on sales tax.
Do I have to pay for Etsy's Offsite Ads?
Only on sales the ad network actually drove within 30 days of a click, at 15% for shops under $10,000 in trailing 365-day sales or 12% above that mark, capped at $100 per order. Shops under the threshold can opt out; shops that cross it lose that option permanently, even if sales later drop.
Is Etsy Plus worth $10 a month?
For a shop already listing 15-plus items and running Etsy Ads monthly, mostly yes: the subscription returns $3 in listing credit and $5 in ad credit, covering most of the monthly fee. A quiet shop that skips listing and advertising gets little back, since unused credit expires each cycle.
How much does Etsy charge for payment processing?
3% of the order total plus a flat $0.25, for sellers with a US bank account. The rate differs by country, so a UK or Canadian seller sees a different figure on the same Etsy Payments Policy page.
Is there a fee to open an Etsy shop?
Etsy discloses a one-time set-up fee during onboarding but does not publish a fixed dollar amount in its policy, and says the fee can be adjusted or waived at its discretion, including during promotional periods.
How we compared
We read Etsy's Fees & Payments Policy and Etsy Payments Policy, both on etsy.com, on September 25, 2026. The worked example applies the published percentages directly to a $30 item price with no separate shipping charge; a shop that charges shipping separately would see the transaction and processing fees rise with it, per Etsy's own policy text. Nobody paid for placement on this page. Louis Corneloup, founder of Toolradar and Dupple, edited this page.
