Printful vs Printify in 2026 for ecommerce sellers: verified plan prices, the same Bella + Canvas shirt, and when in-house quality beats a cheaper network.

Printful vs Printify (2026): Which Is Better for Ecommerce Sellers?
Key facts4 plans compared: Printify Free, Printify Premium, Printful Free, Printful Growth
  • Updated: September 26, 2026
  • Prices as of: September 2026
  • 4 plans compared: Printify Free, Printify Premium, Printful Free, Printful Growth
  • Printify Free (best for: Testing designs before a subscription): $0, up to 5 stores
  • Printify Premium (best for: Sellers whose discount will beat the fee): $39/month, or $299/year
  • Printful Free (best for: A brand that wants in-house production with no monthly fee): $0
  • Printful Growth (best for: Volume that can use the discount, or sales past the waiver): $24.99/month, 14-day trial

Printify is the better default for most ecommerce sellers in 2026: the platform fee is free, and Premium is $39 a month or $299 a year for up to 20% off the catalog. Pick Printful when the brand needs one in-house print standard, on the free plan or on Growth at $24.99 a month.

The two subscriptions land almost on top of each other over a full year, so the real split is the shirt invoice and who holds the printer. Printify's published start for a Bella + Canvas 3001 is $10.98 before shipping. Printful's USD catalog price for that same blank is $11.92. Prices below were verified in September 2026 on each vendor's pricing and product pages.

Toolradar data: Toolradar, the software directory we run, evaluated 11 print-on-demand tools for its September 2026 ranking, and named Printify the overall pick in that set. This page is the margin decision inside that list. The directory page is the print-on-demand ranking.

At a glance

Plan Best for What you pay (USD) What the fee actually buys
Printify Free Testing designs before a subscription $0, up to 5 stores Catalog access, no product discount
Printify Premium Sellers whose discount will beat the fee $39/month, or $299/year Up to 20% off the catalog, up to 33% off new products, 10 stores
Printful Free A brand that wants in-house production with no monthly fee $0 In-house fulfillment, no product discount, unlimited connected stores
Printful Growth Volume that can use the discount, or sales past the waiver $24.99/month, 14-day trial DTG discount capped at 25%, all-over print up to 33%, fee waived after $12,000 in yearly sales

Print on demand prints the blank and ships it after the customer pays, so you do not buy inventory for designs that never sell. That suits a seller still testing graphics, and it removes the volume discount a warehouse order would have earned once a design sells every week.

Both companies make money on the fulfilled item, not on a seat. A free plan is a real way to list products, and it is not a promise that the landed cost will leave room after the store takes its cut. The longer writeups are the Printify review and the Printful review.

What the monthly fee does not include

The subscription is not the cost of goods. Printful's catalog price covers the blank, one print or embroidery placement, and fulfillment, so a margin sheet that stops there misses the lines that decide whether the order makes money. Shipping, tax, a second placement, labels, and embroidery digitization are extra. Printify includes one DTG placement in the product price and leaves shipping out, which is the same hole if you offer free shipping to win the sale.

The headline discount is easy to misread, and the misreading is expensive. Printify Premium's higher rate applies to new products, so a shirt you reorder does not get it. The discount on the rest of the catalog is up to 20%, and that is the rate to put on a bestseller. Printful's higher rate is the all-over-print cap, which a standard chest print never uses. Direct-to-garment, the method on a standard tee, is capped lower on Growth, embroidery is capped at 9%, and home and living matches the garment cap, all listed on the Growth perks page.

Printify raised the monthly Premium card from $29 to $39 on 17 February 2026 and left the annual price at $299. Anyone still quoting the older monthly figure is a year behind the pricing page, and a forecast built on that older card understates the fee every month. Printful Growth stays a monthly plan with no annual lock, and the pricing page says the fee becomes free once yearly sales reach $12,000.

A year of that Growth fee, if you never cross the sales line, is $299.88. Printify's annual Premium price is 88 cents under that. Pay for the print shop and the discount rules, not for a cheaper logo.

The same shirt, two invoices

The honest comparison is one blank, not a cheap tee against a heavier retail blank. Printify's 2026 pricing guide states a Bella + Canvas 3001 start of $10.98, and $8.77 with Premium. The gap is $2.21, in line with the catalog discount, not the new-product rate, so the headline cut misses this reorder. Printful's Bella + Canvas 3001 page listed a USD offer of $11.92 on 23 September 2026. Catalog prices can vary slightly by fulfillment location, so treat that figure as the public USD offer, not a quote for every region.

Cost on one Bella + Canvas 3001 Printify Printful
Product, one DTG placement, before shipping From $10.98 free, from $8.77 on Premium $11.92 public USD offer
US shipping, single shirt Typically $3.50 to $5.00, provider-dependent $4.95 flat, plus $2.20 for another shirt in the order
Paid-plan product price Stated start of $8.77 Not published for this shirt. A full 25% DTG discount would take $2.98 off, a ceiling, not a confirmed rate

On the free plans the product gap is $0.94 before shipping, which is small enough that a higher-rated Printify shop on the same blank can erase it. Add Printful's US shirt rate and the product-plus-shipping total is $16.87 before tax. Using Printify's typical US range on that free-plan start, the same blank lands between $14.48 and $15.98, and only if you are on a provider at that start price.

Printify Premium covers its monthly fee after 18 of these shirts, because 18 times $2.21 clears the monthly fee. The annual card is covered after 136 of them, and only on this blank, so a mixed catalog takes longer. A Gildan 5000, which the same guide lists from $8.80 and from $5.92 on Premium, is a different garment. Use it when the merchandising can accept a heavier basic tee, and do not treat it as this Bella invoice.

Printful will not show the Growth price for this shirt on the public page, so do not budget the ceiling. If this SKU did receive the full direct-to-garment cut, the product would fall to $8.94, close to Printify's Premium start, and you would still add shipping. Until the catalog shows that rate on the color and size you sell, the public offer is the number to put in the margin sheet. For the startup costs and the profit left per item on one Printful tee, read the print-on-demand start-up guide.

Who prints the order

Printful wins when every reorder has to match the last one. Production is in-house, every order gets a 3-step quality check, and a manufacturing error is covered with a free reprint or refund, which is why a repeat buyer accepts the higher public blank. It also says 86% of orders are fulfilled in the same region as the customer, so most buyers are not waiting on a cross-border hop. The shipping page puts average fulfillment at 2 to 5 business days, then flat-rate US delivery at 3 to 4 business days after fulfillment. That clock is an estimate, and Printful says so. It is not a guaranteed delivery date, and a bad file or a stockout sits outside it.

Printify routes the order across a marketplace rather than one factory. The pricing page describes 90+ print providers and 140+ facilities, vetted and ranked on quality, speed, and shipping. That spread helps a distant buyer and hurts if the cheapest rank wins by default. Merchant Protection covers a manufacturing error with a reprint or refund inside 30 days, so support has a deadline to name in the reply. The rank is a filter rather than a single standard, so two providers can ship the same design at different prices, on different days, with a different hand-feel, and the customer writes to you either way.

That is the operating difference for a Shopify brand. Printful is one production line you can sample and then trust across a colorway. Printify is a routing choice you remake per product, and sometimes per country, which is useful when the buyer is far from a single facility and costly when a bestseller quietly moves to a weaker shop. Order a sample from the provider you will actually use before the listing goes live. A mockup does not show stitch, collar, or how an inside label reads on a white tee.

If the business later stocks a proven design instead of printing every unit, that is an inventory decision, covered in inventory management software, not a reason to stay on the free print plan out of habit.

Branding, labels, and embroidery

Printful publishes the add-on menu, which is what you want before you promise a branded unboxing. An inside apparel label is $0.99, an outside label is $2.49, and a premium stock image is $1 per image, per placement, per item sold. They disappear from the model if you only priced the blank. Embroidery digitization is a one-time $2.95 to $6.50 per design, and an extra embroidery placement is $2.95, so a second logo is a per-unit fee rather than a setup you pay once. Growth adds a large front print on selected tees, including this Bella + Canvas 3001, at $1.50. Skip that add-on when the graphic already fits the included placement.

Growth also takes 9% off branding and raises the sample discount above the free-plan rate. Samples are capped at one order a month with up to three items, which is enough to check a new graphic and not enough to outfit a pop-up. Digitization on sample orders is free on Growth, which matters the first time you test a hat logo.

Printify's Premium card says branding features are discounted, and it does not publish a label price list next to that claim. You will see the real neck-label price inside the product creator for the provider you picked. Budget the label from that provider's price, not from the percentage on the plan card. The cheaper label can sit on the shop you already rejected for hand-feel.

A brand that sells embroidery as the product, polos and hats rather than a chest print, has a clearer home on Printful, because the digitization fee and the placement fee are written down before you sell the first unit. A brand that only needs a front DTG print can stay on whichever shirt invoice wins after shipping.

Catalog, stores, and the sales channel

Printful's pricing page lists 562 custom products. Printify's pricing page leads with 2,000+ products, and a stats block on that same page says 1,300+ customizable products. Printify still wins the assortment on either count, which is what you want when one niche has to stretch from tees into mugs, cases, and posters without a second supplier login. Printful's shorter catalog is the trade for a production line it operates itself. An apparel-only line barely feels that gap, while a mug beside the tee shows up as the first product you cannot list.

Store count cuts the other way on the free plans. Printful lists unlimited connected stores, while Printify's free plan stops at 5 stores and Premium raises that to 10, with unlimited stores only on the custom Enterprise tier. A seller with a separate shop per country, or a wholesale site beside the DTC site, hits Printify's free cap first, while one shop can ignore it.

Both connect to the channels ecommerce teams already run. Printful says 20+ ecommerce platforms, and Printify's own list includes Shopify, Etsy, TikTok Shop, Amazon, eBay, WooCommerce, Wix, BigCommerce, Squarespace, and an API. The store is still a separate bill, because platform fees and payment processing sit on top of either print invoice. Before pricing a print-on-demand item for eBay, check eBay seller fees 2026 for the per-order and final value fees. The retail price has to be set in the Shopify admin, or whichever ecommerce platform you use, and not inside the print tool. Apps that change the product page sit in the Shopify app roundup.

Shipping you can put in the price

Printful wins a rate you can paste into a pricing sheet. Its shipping page prices a single shirt, in the category that covers tees, tanks, polos, and long sleeves, at a fixed standard rate. A second shirt in the same order is cheaper than the first, which is the bundle to offer when average order value is the problem.

Printful standard shipping, one shirt Single item Each extra item
USA $4.95 $2.20
Europe $4.99 $1.45
Canada $8.59 $1.95
Australia and New Zealand $7.99 $1.40
Worldwide $12.49 $6.00

Printify does not publish one rate card, because the provider sets shipping. The pricing guide's typical US range for a single shirt is the figure in the shirt table above. International orders on that guide can run higher, and two providers on one order can mean two parcels. If you promise free shipping on the product page, fold that range into the retail price before you launch, or the first week of orders will donate the margin.

Live carrier rates are available on some Printful integrations, including Shopify and WooCommerce, when you would rather show a carrier price than the flat card. Either way, the print tool is not your parcel operation once you ship your own goods. That handoff is shipping software, and ShipStation is the review to read when labels move in-house.

Who should pick which

Pick Printify when you are still cutting designs that do not sell. The free plan lists unlimited designs, the catalog is the wider one, and the Bella start price is the lower of the two public numbers. Move to Premium when this blank's $2.21 gap, times your monthly unit count, clears the monthly fee, or when the annual plan is easier to justify than a monthly bill that already went up once in 2026. Stay on a named provider after you sample it. The cheapest start price is a floor, and a bestseller that hops shops will show up in reviews before it shows up in the dashboard.

Pick Printful when the product itself is the brand you are selling. In-house production, a written label and embroidery menu, a fixed US shirt ship rate, and a 3-step check are worth the higher public blank if a mismatched reorder would cost the repeat purchase. Use Growth when the DTG discount you actually see in the catalog beats $24.99, or when yearly sales are close enough to $12,000 that the fee is about to drop off. Skip Growth while you are still sampling three graphics a month. The 14-day trial is the way to see the real SKU discount, which the public page does not print.

Pick neither as a warehouse, because both are print-after-payment. A catalog you replenish, a wholesale carton, or a retail fixture belongs with order management and a supplier who will hold goods. The wider print-on-demand set, if these two are the wrong shape, is the print-on-demand roundup. Sellers comparing networks that are not print-on-demand at all should start from dropshipping suppliers.

Setting the retail number is a separate job from picking the printer. Once the landed cost is known, the price test belongs with retail pricing tools, using the invoices above as the floor, not a guess from a mockup.

How we compared

We read Printful's pricing, Growth perks, shipping, and Bella + Canvas 3001 pages, and Printify's pricing page, Premium announcement, and t-shirt pricing guide, on 23 September 2026. Shirt totals add those published product prices to the published shipping figures. The 25% Printful figure is the stated DTG cap, not a confirmed discount on that shirt. This page includes an affiliate link to Printify. Louis Corneloup, founder of Toolradar and Dupple, edited the verdict. Re-check the vendor pages before you freeze a price list, because these cards were read on that date.

FAQ

Which is better for ecommerce sellers in 2026, Printful or Printify?

Printify is the better default when you are testing designs and the lower public shirt price matters. Printful is the better pick when one in-house print standard matters more than that gap, on the free plan or on Growth. Toolradar's September 2026 ranking of 11 print-on-demand tools also names Printify the overall pick, which matches the cost side of this comparison and does not erase the quality reason to choose Printful.

How much does Printful cost versus Printify?

Both platforms are free to start, and you pay the product plus shipping when an order comes in, so a month with no sales costs nothing until you upgrade. Printful Growth is $24.99 a month after a 14-day trial, and the pricing page says it becomes free once yearly sales reach $12,000. Twelve months of Growth below that line is $299.88. Printify Premium is $39 a month or $299 a year, and the monthly price rose from $29 on 17 February 2026, while Enterprise on either side is a custom quote.

Is Printify cheaper than Printful on the same t-shirt?

On the Bella + Canvas 3001, Printify's published start is $10.98 before shipping, against Printful's public USD offer of $11.92, a gap of $0.94 that a higher-rated shop can close. Premium drops Printify's start to $8.77, and Printful does not publish the Growth price for this shirt. A full 25% off the public offer would be $2.98, down to $8.94, and that is a ceiling, not a rate you can put in a budget. US shipping then adds Printful's flat $4.95, or Printify's typical $3.50 to $5.00, which depends on the provider. Compare the landed cost, or the cheaper blank can lose once shipping is on the invoice.

Does the 33% discount apply to every product?

No. Printify's up-to-33% rate is for new products, and the full catalog discount is up to 20%. Printful's matching headline is the all-over-print cap on Growth, not a discount on a standard tee. Direct-to-garment is capped lower, embroidery at 9%, and home and living matches the garment cap. Put the catalog rate on a reorder, and reserve the headline rate for a product the plan marks as new.

Is there a free trial, and can I sell with no monthly fee?

Printful Growth has a 14-day trial, and the free plan has no monthly fee, so you can sell without subscribing and use the trial when you need to see a real SKU discount. Printify's pricing FAQ says Premium is non-refundable and that you must cancel before the renewal date to avoid the next charge, which means a forgotten renewal is money you cannot claw back. The free Printify plan also has no monthly fee, and it caps you at 5 stores. Neither free plan includes the product discount, so the free tier tests designs and does not protect margin.

Which should a Shopify brand choose when consistency matters?

Printful. One in-house line, a 3-step quality check, published label and embroidery fees, and a fixed US shirt shipping rate are the controls a repeat-purchase brand can sample once and keep. Printify fits that brand only if you lock a provider, sample it, and accept that a second provider is a different product. The store subscription is separate from either print bill. Read the Shopify review before you treat the print fee as the whole stack.

How many stores can I connect, and how big is the catalog?

Printful's free plan lists unlimited connected stores and 562 custom products, plus a cap of 10 Quick Stores. Printify lists 2,000+ products, 5 stores on the free plan, and 10 stores on Premium. Unlimited Printify stores are an Enterprise conversation, which a one-store brand can skip and a shop-per-country seller cannot. If you need more sales channels than print files, start from the ecommerce platform roundup.
