Walmart Seller Fees 2026: Referral, WFS and Storage Costs on a Real Order
Walmart Marketplace has no monthly fee: a 6% to 15% referral fee by category, WFS fulfillment from $3.45 a unit and storage at $0.75 per cubic foot, worked out.

Selling on Walmart Marketplace in 2026 costs a referral fee of 6% to 15% of the total sales price, set by category, with no setup fee and no monthly fee. A $25 Home and Kitchen item pays $3.75 in referral, and $7.20 once Walmart Fulfillment Services ships it for $3.45 as a one-pound parcel. Storage adds $0.75 per cubic foot a month outside the holiday quarter.
Those figures come from Walmart's referral fee schedule, its WFS cost estimator and the WFS fee guide in Seller Help, all read on October 17, 2026. Walmart does not charge for listings or for an account, so the bill is the referral fee, the fulfillment fee if you use WFS, and the storage line. Amazon, by contrast, charges a plan fee before the first sale, as our Amazon seller fees guide shows.
Toolradar data: Toolradar, the software directory we run, evaluated 108 ecommerce platforms for its October 2026 ranking, and 4 of its top 10 have a free plan. Walmart is a marketplace, not a storefront: there is nothing to subscribe to, and the fee only exists once an item sells.
Walmart fees at a glance
| Fee | Amount | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Account, setup, monthly | $0 | Never charged; Walmart's page promises zero setup, monthly or hidden fees |
| Listing fee | $0 | No charge per listing |
| Referral fee | 6% to 15% of the total sales price in most categories, by category | Every sale; the base includes shipping, handling and gift wrap charges |
| WFS fulfillment | From $3.45 per unit at one pound or less, $4.95 at two | Only when Walmart stores, picks, packs and ships the order |
| WFS storage | $0.75 per cubic foot per month, January to September | Every month inventory sits in a Walmart fulfillment center |
| WFS peak storage | Add $1.50 per cubic foot for units held more than 30 days | October to December |
| WFS returns | $4.70 per unit at one pound or less | Each customer return processed by WFS |
The referral fee is the only line a seller who ships their own orders ever pays Walmart. A seller who moves fulfillment to WFS adds a per-unit fee that depends on weight, a storage fee that depends on volume and time, and a return fee that is higher than the outbound fee. Each of those is worked out below.
The referral fee: the category and the price band set it
Walmart takes a percentage of the total sales price, and the total includes the item price plus any shipping, handling or gift wrap the buyer pays. A $20 item with $5 of shipping is charged on the full amount, not on the item alone. Price the shipping line with that in mind, because a "free shipping" listing and a cheaper listing that charges the difference as shipping pay the same referral.
Most categories sit at 15%: Home, Kitchen, Decor and Garden, Toys and Games, Pet Supplies, Books, Luggage, Shoes and Handbags, Tools and Home Improvement, Software, Video and DVD, Office Products, and the "Everything Else" catch-all. The homepage advertises a range of 6% to 15%, and the floor of that range is Personal Computers at 6%. A few lines fall outside it once a price band kicks in.
The lower flat rates reward careful category assignment:
- 8%: Major Appliances, Camera and Photo, Collectibles, Consumer Electronics, Video Game Consoles.
- 10%: Tires and Wheels, Plumbing, Heating, Cooling and Ventilation.
- 12%: Automotive and Powersports, Base Power Tools, Industrial and Scientific, Musical Instruments, printer cartridges inside Office Products.
Several categories change rate at a price threshold, and the threshold works two ways. Apparel and Accessories charges 5% on items of $15 or less, 10% between $15 and $20, and 15% above $20. Baby Products and Beauty, Health and Personal Care charge 8% on items of ten dollars or less and 15% above that. Grocery charges 8% up to $15 and 15% above. In those categories the rate applies to the whole price, so a grocery item at $15.00 pays $1.20 in referral while the same item at $15.01 pays $2.25. That cliff is worth a repricing pass through any catalog that hovers near a threshold.
Other categories split the price into portions instead. Jewelry and Precious Metals charges 20% on the portion up to $250 and 5% on the rest, so a $1,000 ring pays $50 plus $37.50, or $87.50. Watches charge 15% on the first $1,500 and 3% above. Electronics Accessories charges 15% up to $100 and 8% beyond, Indoor and Outdoor Furniture 15% up to $200 and 10% beyond, Compact Appliances 12% up to $300 and 8% beyond, and Outdoor Power Tools 15% up to $500 and 8% beyond. For a furniture seller, a $600 sofa pays $30 on the first portion and $40 on the remaining $400, which is $70, or 11.7% blended rather than the headline 15%.
WFS fulfillment fees: weight and a handful of surcharges
Walmart Fulfillment Services charges a per-unit fee based on the greater of the unit's actual weight and its dimensional weight, which Walmart calculates as length times width times height in inches divided by 139. The standard schedule starts at the one-pound rate quoted above, rises to $4.95 at two pounds and $5.45 at three, then runs $5.75 plus $0.40 for each pound above four in the 4 to 20 pound band. A 10-pound unit pays $5.75 plus $2.40, or $8.15.
Heavier bands continue the same per-pound step from a new base: $15.55 for 21 to 30 pounds, $14.55 for 31 to 50 pounds and $17.55 at 51 pounds and up, each plus $0.40 per pound above the band's floor. Big and Bulky items up to 500 pounds pay $155 plus $0.80 for every pound above 90. A 120-pound treadmill therefore costs $179 to fulfill, before referral.
Four surcharges stack on the standard fee:
- Apparel: add $0.50 per unit.
- Hazmat: add $0.50 per unit.
- Retail price under $10: add $1 per unit.
- Oversize: add $3 for the first oversize tier and $20 for the second.
The under-$10 surcharge is the one that bites. An $8 kitchen gadget pays $1.20 in referral at 15%, then the one-pound fulfillment fee plus the $1 surcharge, for $5.65 in fees on an $8 sale. That leaves $2.35 before the cost of goods, inbound freight and packaging. Low-ticket items need either a bundle that lifts the price over the surcharge line or merchant fulfillment.
Walmart's page claims WFS costs 15% less per item than other marketplace fulfillment providers, and footnotes the claim as Walmart's own data on orders fulfilled from July 2024 to June 2025. Treat it as the vendor's number: the honest comparison is your own product's Walmart fee against the fee Amazon's revenue calculator returns for the same unit.
Storage: cheap until the holiday quarter
From January to September, WFS storage costs $0.75 per cubic foot per month. A pallet-sized 64 cubic feet of inventory costs $48 a month, and a single 12 by 12 by 12 inch carton costs about 75 cents. For a product that turns over every month, storage is a rounding error next to the fulfillment fee.
October to December changes the math. Units stored for 30 days or less in those months still pay the base rate, but units held longer than 30 days add $1.50 per cubic foot, three times the standard rate on top of it. A carton that sits from November 1 to December 31 pays the base in its first month and $2.25 per cubic foot in its second. Stock that does not sell through by early December is paying triple to wait for January.
Long-term storage fees, effective June 30, 2026, punish inventory that never moves: $2.25 per cubic foot per month for units stored 366 to 450 days and $7.50 per cubic foot per month beyond 450 days. At the top rate, that same 64 cubic foot pallet costs $480 a month. Removing stock is cheaper than that: disposal costs $0.35 per unit at two pounds or less, plus $0.20 for each pound above two, and having the stock shipped back to you costs the disposal fee plus $0.40 per pound.
Returns and prep: the fees sellers forget
A WFS customer return costs more to process than the original shipment. Return processing starts at $4.70 for a unit of one pound or less, $6.20 at two pounds, $6.70 at three, and $7.00 plus the same per-pound step above four in the 4 to 20 pound band. On the one-pound example, one return costs $4.70 against the outbound fee paid to ship it, so a 10% return rate adds about 47 cents to the average cost of every unit sold.
Prep is charged only when inventory arrives non-compliant. A missing or incorrect label costs $0.65 per unit and a missing or incorrect poly bag $0.80. Inbound freight to the fulfillment center and Walmart's optional Inventory Transfer Services are not in the published schedule, so budget them from your carrier's quote.
A $25 order, fee by fee
The scenario is one Home, Kitchen, Decor and Garden item sold at $25 with free shipping, weighing one pound and taking up a tenth of a cubic foot, sold within the month it arrives at WFS, outside the holiday quarter. Fees were read on Walmart's pages on October 17, 2026.
| Line | Calculation | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Sale price | $25.00 | |
| Referral fee | 15% of the total sales price | $3.75 |
| WFS fulfillment | Standard unit, one pound or less | $3.45 |
| Storage share | 0.1 cubic foot at the January to September rate | $0.08 |
| Fees before returns | $7.28 | |
| Net to seller | Sale price minus fees | $17.72 |
The same item fulfilled by the seller pays the referral only, leaving $21.25 to cover postage, packaging and goods. Whether WFS is worth $3.53 of that depends on what your own carrier charges for a one-pound parcel; a seller paying $5 or more in postage and labor comes out ahead on WFS, a seller shipping in bulk from their own warehouse may not.
New sellers pay less for a while. Walmart's new-seller savings offer, read October 17, 2026, gives sellers who start after February 1, 2026 a 20% referral discount on their first $50,000 of sales, 30% on sales from $50,001 to $500,000, and 40% above that, capped at $72,000 of savings and ending January 31, 2027. WFS fees get 10% off per unit received, up to $2,000 of savings. On the example order the referral drops to $3.00 and fulfillment to about $3.11, so the fee stack falls from $7.28 to $6.19, a $1.09 difference per unit in the first year. The offer also bundles sponsored-search rebates and a $500 Walmart Connect ad credit that must be used within 28 days.
Walmart against Amazon and eBay on the same item
The table applies each marketplace's published rate to the same sale with no shipping charge, seller-fulfilled, so only the marketplace commission and plan fees count. Amazon's figures come from its selling pricing page and eBay's from its selling fees page, both read on October 17, 2026.
| Marketplace | Fee calculation | Fees per sale | Net before fulfillment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Walmart, Home and Kitchen | 15% referral, no plan fee | $3.75 | $21.25 |
| eBay, most categories | 13.6% final value fee + $0.40 per order over $10 | $3.80 | $21.20 |
| Amazon, Professional plan at 50 items a month | 15% referral + $0.80 share of the $39.99 monthly fee | $4.55 | $20.45 |
| Amazon, Individual plan | 15% referral + $0.99 per item | $4.74 | $20.26 |
Walmart and eBay are within a nickel of each other, and both undercut Amazon by $0.80 to $0.99 on this sale because Amazon adds a plan fee that Walmart does not have. In Apparel the gap widens: the same item sold as clothing pays 15% on Walmart and 17% on Amazon, 50 cents more per sale. In Consumer Electronics the three marketplaces converge, since Walmart and Amazon both charge 8% there. Amazon does not publish its per-unit FBA fulfillment rates on its pricing page, so the fulfillment side of the comparison needs a product-level quote from each platform's calculator.
Etsy is a different market with a different fee stack, broken down in our Etsy seller fees guide, and eBay's surcharges are covered line by line in eBay seller fees.
Pricing backward from the margin you need
The referral fee works in reverse. To keep $20 on a 15% Home and Kitchen item sold through WFS at one pound, the price must cover the net plus the fulfillment fee, divided by 0.85: ($20 + the one-pound fee) / 0.85 is $27.59, so list at $27.60. Add the $1 surcharge back in if the item is under $10, and rerun the figure at the right band if the category has a price cliff. The result is the lowest price that clears your target after Walmart's fees, not a finished margin, because goods, inbound freight and advertising come out next.
Sellers who already run that math for Amazon can reuse their spreadsheet with Walmart's columns swapped in. Tools that pull both marketplaces into one view are compared in best Amazon seller tools, and Jungle Scout and Sellbrite, both tracked on Toolradar, cover product research and multichannel listing respectively.
FAQ
How much does it cost to sell on Walmart Marketplace in 2026?
A referral fee of 6% to 15% of the total sales price in most categories, charged per sale, and nothing else unless you use Walmart Fulfillment Services. There is no setup fee, no monthly subscription and no listing fee. The example Home and Kitchen item pays $3.75 in referral when the seller ships it, as read on Walmart's fee schedule on October 17, 2026.
Does Walmart charge a monthly fee to sellers?
No. Walmart's pricing page states zero setup, monthly or hidden fees for Marketplace and for WFS. That is the clearest difference from Amazon, which charges $0.99 per item on its Individual plan or $39.99 a month on Professional before the referral fee.
What is the Walmart referral fee?
A percentage of the total sales price, including shipping and gift wrap charges, set by category. Most categories pay 15%, Consumer Electronics and Cameras pay 8%, Personal Computers pay 6%, and categories like Apparel, Grocery, Baby and Beauty switch from a lower rate to 15% once the price crosses $10, $15 or $20.
How much are Walmart Fulfillment Services fees?
Fulfillment costs $3.45 per unit at one pound or less, $4.95 at two pounds, $5.45 at three, and $5.75 plus $0.40 per extra pound from four to 20 pounds. Apparel and hazmat add $0.50, low-priced items add $1, and oversize units add $3 or $20. Storage is $0.75 per cubic foot per month from January to September, with an extra $1.50 per cubic foot on units held more than 30 days in October to December.
Is Walmart cheaper than Amazon for sellers?
On the marketplace commission, slightly. The Home and Kitchen example costs less on Walmart than the $4.74 on Amazon's Individual plan or the $4.55 on Professional at 50 items a month, because Walmart has no plan fee. Fulfillment costs depend on the product, and Walmart's claim that WFS runs 15% cheaper is its own figure, so compare both calculators on your unit.
How long does the new-seller discount last?
Until January 31, 2027, or until the savings cap is reached, whichever comes first. Sellers who started after February 1, 2026 get 20% off referral fees on their first $50,000 of sales, rising to 30% and 40% at higher sales bands, capped at $72,000, plus 10% off WFS fees up to $2,000.
What does Walmart charge for a WFS return?
Return processing starts at $4.70 for a unit of one pound or less and rises with weight, more than the outbound fulfillment fee for the same unit. Disposal of unsold stock costs $0.35 per unit at two pounds or less, and a removal back to the seller adds a per-pound shipping charge on top.
How we checked
Every price on this page was verified on vendor pages in October 2026. We read Walmart's referral fee schedule, its WFS cost estimator, the WFS fee guide in Seller Help and the new-seller savings terms on October 17, 2026, and Amazon's and eBay's selling fee pages the same day. The worked examples apply the published percentages and per-unit fees to a one-pound, $25 item with no shipping charge, rounded to the cent; the storage share assumes a tenth of a cubic foot sold within the month. We did not sell through any of these platforms for this piece, and Walmart's "15% cheaper" fulfillment claim is reported as Walmart's own figure. Toolradar's platform count is from its October 2026 ranking. This guide is by Louis Corneloup, founder of Toolradar and Dupple.
