Shopify Pricing 2026: Every Plan, Real Costs and Hidden Fees
Shopify costs $29 to $299 a month on yearly billing in 2026, plus 2.9% + 30¢ on Basic card sales. Plans, fees and costs at $10k to $150k a month.

Shopify costs $29/mo on Basic, $79/mo on Grow and $299/mo on Advanced when billed yearly in the US in 2026, or $39, $105 and $399 billed monthly. Online card sales cost 2.9% + 30¢ on Basic, 2.7% on Grow and 2.5% on Advanced. Prices verified as of Oct 2026. Stay on Basic until online sales pass about $25,000 a month, then move to Grow.
Every figure below was read on Shopify's own pricing page in its US (USD) view on 9 October 2026, plus the POS pricing page and the Theme Store. Toolradar data: Toolradar, the software directory we run, evaluated 104 ecommerce platforms for its October 2026 ranking, and Shopify is one of them. The sticker price is the smaller half of the bill for most stores, because card processing grows with every sale while the subscription stays flat.
Our own arithmetic puts the Basic to Grow break-even at $25,000 a month in online sales on yearly billing, and at $33,000 on monthly billing. Below that line Basic wins on the fees you will actually pay.

| Advanced | $399 | $299 | 2.5% + 30¢ | 2.4% + 10¢ | 0.6% | Up to 15 |

New stores get a 3-day free trial, then pay $1/month for the first 3 months on the standard plans before the table prices apply. Two more plans appear in Shopify's help center and not on the pricing grid. Starter, aimed at selling through social and messaging apps, is closed to new stores. A zero-cost Agentic plan lists products in AI shopping channels and charges only the 2.9% + 30¢ online card rate when something sells.
How much does Shopify cost per month?
Basic is the plan to start on for a solo seller, because billed yearly it covers the full online store, unlimited products, a checkout, 10 inventory locations and live chat support. It has no extra staff logins, so a founder with a part-time helper is already shopping for Grow. Paying monthly adds $10 to Basic, which is worth it only if you expect to quit inside a year.
Grow suits a small team: it adds up to 5 staff accounts and drops the card rate by 0.2 points, and that 0.2 points is the whole reason the plan pays for itself: the extra $50 of yearly-billed subscription is recovered once 0.2% of monthly sales passes $50.
Advanced suits stores selling across regions, since it gives up to 15 staff accounts, enhanced support, live third-party shipping rates and region-specific storefronts, and lowers the card rate to 2.5%. The extra $220 a month over Grow needs about $110,000 of monthly card sales to break even, so most stores that buy it for the rate alone are paying early.
Plus is Shopify's tier for more complex businesses, adding unlimited staff accounts, a fully customizable checkout, unlimited B2B catalogs and priority phone support. A store without six-figure monthly sales has no card-rate reason to look at it.
Shopify transaction fees: the cost that scales
Shopify Payments is the cheaper road for most US stores, with an online rate of 2.9% + 30¢ on Basic, while premium cards cost 3.5% + 30¢. International cards add 1 point on every plan. PayPal wallet payments start at 3.49% + 49¢ on every plan, which is higher than the standard card rate, so a store with a PayPal-heavy audience gets less benefit from upgrading.
Use a different processor and the third-party gateway fee applies on top of whatever that processor charges: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow and 0.6% on Advanced. Shopify's Payments help page says orders that run through Shopify Payments, Shop Pay and Shop Pay Installments carry no third-party fee. The fee also does not apply if you accept manual methods such as cash, cash on delivery and bank transfers. If you run Shopify Payments next to another gateway, the fee does apply to the other gateway's orders.
If Shopify Payments is not an option for your business, the plan decides your gateway cost. On $50,000 a month through an outside processor, that fee is $1,000 on Basic, $500 on Grow and $300 on Advanced, before the processor's own charges. For that store the upgrade to Grow saves more than the card rate would.
What a store really pays at $10k, $50k and $150k a month
The scenario: a US store selling online only, paying with standard cards through Shopify Payments, at a $60 average order, on yearly billing. Orders are sales divided by $60, so $10,000 is about 167 orders, $50,000 is about 833 and $150,000 is 2,500. Each total is the subscription plus the percentage and the 30¢ per order. It excludes apps, themes, shipping and sales tax.
| Monthly online sales | Basic | Grow | Advanced | Cheapest |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $10,000 | $369 | $399 | $599 | Basic |
| $50,000 | $1,729 | $1,679 | $1,799 | Grow |
| $150,000 | $5,129 | $4,879 | $4,799 | Advanced |
At $10,000 a month, card fees alone are $340 on Basic, so the subscription is under a tenth of the bill. At $50,000, Grow saves $50 a month over Basic, and Advanced is the most expensive of the three. At $150,000, Advanced finally wins by $80 over Grow. Plus, which has the lowest rate at 2.25%, would add $2,300 a month to that store and lose to all three on cost.
The pattern is that the plan decision is small money until card volume gets large. A store at $10,000 a month spends about $30 a month more on Grow, and a store at $150,000 saves roughly $250 a month by moving up from Basic. Neither is a reason to delay launching. Re-run this table at each break-even.
Hidden costs beyond the plan
The subscription is only the start, and these costs sit outside the pricing table:
- Themes. The Theme Store has free themes, and its paid themes list at prices such as $100, $150, $320 and $450.
- Apps. Each app in the App Store sets its own price, and many offer a free plan. A store running email, reviews, a subscription tool and a loyalty app can add a bill that outgrows the plan. Our best Shopify apps list shows which categories are worth paying for, and email marketing for Shopify covers the one most stores buy first.
- POS Pro. In-person selling works on every plan at the in-person rate, but advanced retail tools are $89/mo per location. See best POS systems before adding it.
- Marketplace sync. The first 50 synced marketplace orders a month are free. Beyond that, Shopify charges 1% up to $99/mo.
- SMS. Text campaigns are billed per message sent rather than included.
- Dropshipping tools. Product sourcing and fulfilment apps carry their own fees; the dropshipping apps comparison shows what they cost.
- AI add-ons. Shopify includes its Sidekick assistant and AI store builder, but third-party writing and merchandising apps are separate, as in our AI apps for Shopify roundup.
A Basic plan with $150 of apps is a $179 store before a sale happens, so price the app stack and not only the plan.
Is there a free Shopify plan or trial?
There is no permanent free plan. A trial runs 3 days, then the first 3 months cost $1/month, so the first quarter on Basic costs $3 before the regular price starts. After that, billing starts at the standard price, with a lower monthly figure if you commit to a year. Selling in AI channels through the Agentic plan costs $0/mo, but it is a channel add-on and not a full store.
Which Shopify plan should I choose?
- Choose Basic if you sell under $25,000 a month, work solo, and want the lowest fixed bill. This fits a new store, a side business and a seller testing a product.
- Choose Grow if you have staff who need logins or sales sit between $25,000 and about $110,000 a month. Most growing small brands land here.
- Choose Advanced if sales approach $110,000 a month on cards, you need 15 staff accounts, or you sell in several regions.
- Look at Plus only when your volume, B2B catalogs or checkout customization justify the entry price listed above.
- Reconsider Shopify if fees are the problem. Our cheaper Shopify alternatives page prices the rivals at the same $10,000 scenario, WooCommerce and BigCommerce among them, and best ecommerce platforms ranks the field. For a marketplace comparison, Etsy seller fees works the same math.

How we built this page
We compared vendor pages, help-center documentation and Toolradar's catalog. We did not run a Shopify store for this page. Prices and rates come from Shopify's US pricing page, read on 9 October 2026, and the theme prices from the Theme Store the same day. Totals are our arithmetic on those rates, shown in the scenario above, and are not a Shopify quote. We re-check the page when Shopify changes a plan or fee. Louis Corneloup, who founded Toolradar and Dupple, edited it.
