The Best Email Marketing Apps for Shopify in 2026

Klaviyo's free plan covers 250 contacts before its paid tiers move to a contact calculator with no flat price. Omnisend, Mailchimp and Brevo still publish one.

Independently researched. No pay-for-placement. 9 tools compared
TL;DR

Klaviyo is the default Shopify pick: free for 250 contacts and 500 emails a month, then priced by an on-site contact calculator that shows no flat monthly figure. Omnisend is the cheaper alternative with a published price, Standard at $16/mo for 500 contacts and unlimited emails on Pro at $59/mo. Mailchimp starts at $13/mo on Essentials and reaches $350/mo on Premium. Shopify Email sends 10,000 emails a month free with no separate app, then $1 per 1,000 after. Privy bundles popups and email from $30/mo, and Brevo has the cheapest paid entry point at $9/mo.

Every Shopify store gets the same pitch for email: it is the channel you own, unlike a social feed an algorithm can bury. What splits these apps is how the bill is built. Klaviyo and Mailchimp price by contact count with a generous free tier.

Omnisend and Brevo publish a flat starting price that undercuts both. Seguno and Sendlane bill through usage, Seguno per subscriber inside the Shopify billing system and Sendlane per email sent regardless of list size.

Shopify Email skips the third-party app and Drip and Privy sit in between, one ecommerce-only and priced high, the other a popup-and-email bundle priced low.

We read the current pricing page for each of the nine below, in September 2026.

Retailpresso data: Toolradar, the software directory we run, tracks 106 email marketing tools as of September 2026, and only 5 of the 10 tools on its top ranking publish a self-serve paid price rather than routing a buyer to a calculator or a sales call.

Klaviyo isn't in that top 10, but its own pricing page shows the same gap: no flat monthly figure for paid plans. Disclosure: Dupple's six sister newsletters (Techpresso, Cyberpresso, MarketingShot, Finpresso, Devshot and Aipresso) run on beehiiv, not any app ranked on this page.

What it is

An email marketing app for Shopify collects customer opt-ins, builds and sends campaigns and automated flows (welcome, abandoned cart, win-back, post-purchase) and reports revenue back against Shopify's own order data.

Every app below connects through the Shopify App Store or a direct integration, and most bill by contact count, email volume or a mix of both.

Why it matters

The number on the homepage is rarely the number you pay. Klaviyo and Seguno both show a low anchor price, then move to a calculator once you enter a real contact count, so the figure you see before signing up is not a quote for your list.

Mailchimp and Omnisend publish the full tier ladder instead, which makes a three-year cost easier to model before you commit.

The other split is what free actually includes. Klaviyo's free plan caps at 250 contacts and 500 emails a month, tight for a store with any repeat traffic.

Shopify Email's free allowance is ten times that, 10,000 emails a month, but only inside a paid Shopify plan you are already covering. Brevo is the only one here that is free by send volume, not by list size, which suits a small list that emails often more than a large one that emails rarely.

Key features to look for

Priced by contacts versus priced by volume
Klaviyo, Mailchimp and Privy scale with your contact count. Brevo and Sendlane scale with how many emails you actually send. A large, quiet list costs more on the first group and less on the second.
Calculator pricing versus a published tier ladder
Klaviyo and Seguno show one entry number, then require a contact count before a real price appears. Omnisend, Mailchimp and Brevo publish every tier on the page, easier to model before you sign up.
What the free plan actually caps
Klaviyo's free tier stops at 250 contacts and 500 emails a month. Shopify Email's free allowance is 10,000 emails a month, but only inside a paid Shopify plan. Brevo's free plan has no contact cap, only a daily send limit.
Built into Shopify versus a separate app
Shopify Email sends from the admin you already use, billed per email past a free allowance. Every other app on this page is a separate account, with its own login, billing and data export.
Unlimited sends versus a send cap
Klaviyo's SMS Plan, Mailchimp's tiers and Sendlane all cap or meter monthly sends past a threshold. Privy and Drip advertise unlimited email sends at every paid tier, so a high-frequency sender does not pay a second bill for volume.

Pricing

Six of the nine apps here publish a fixed number for their cheapest paid tier, listed in the table below; the other two, Klaviyo and Seguno, show a real free-plan price but move to a slider once you enter a contact count for the paid tiers, so we report their free plan in full and note that the paid figure is not a flat, publishable number today.

Brevo's pricing page applies a 10% discount by default for annual billing; we used the monthly list figure in the table below. Omnisend's Standard and Pro tiers show a 30% discount for a three-month prepay; the list price without that promo is what we quote.

Seguno's higher tiers (up to 25,000 subscribers) are set by a slider with no static published number past its entry point, so we report that entry figure only.

We verified every price on the vendor's own pricing page (see Klaviyo and Omnisend on Toolradar for standalone profiles) in September 2026.

Methodology: we read each app's current pricing page and, where public, its Shopify App Store listing, noted plan names, contact and send limits, free-plan caps and billing basis, and confirmed live status on the vendor's own site; no paid placements on this list.

Mistakes to avoid
×Comparing Klaviyo's free tier to Omnisend's or Brevo's paid tier and calling it cheaper. Klaviyo's paid pricing is not published as a flat number, so the honest comparison is free plan to free plan, not free plan to a competitor's list price.
×Picking a contact-based app (Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Privy) for a large list that rarely opens a campaign. Sendlane and Brevo bill by what you send, not who is on the list, and can cost less for a quiet, large audience.
×Assuming Shopify Email's free allowance carries no cost. The app itself is free, but it only runs inside a paid Shopify plan you are already covering, so the true floor is that subscription, not nothing.
×Skipping the free-trial fine print. Sendlane's 60-day trial and Privy's 15-day trial both cap contacts and sends during the trial itself, so neither one lets you test a full-size list before paying.
Expert tips
→Start on the free tier that matches your list size before comparing paid plans: Klaviyo and Omnisend both cap free at 250 contacts, and Brevo's free plan has no contact cap at all, only a daily send limit.
→If your list sends often but stays small, a contact-priced app (Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Privy) usually beats a volume-priced one. If it is large but quiet, price out Sendlane or Brevo's Starter plan against it first.
→Ask Klaviyo or Seguno for the exact number at your contact count before assuming a price from their entry-tier figure. Both show a slider that recalculates once you enter a real list size.
→Add Shopify Email as a free layer under any paid app rather than a replacement for one. Its 10,000 free emails a month can absorb transactional-style sends while your paid app handles flows and campaigns.

The bottom line

Start with Klaviyo if you want the category leader and are fine testing on its free 250-contact tier before checking its calculator for a real paid quote. Omnisend is the better pick when you want a published price at every tier.

Mailchimp suits a store that wants a familiar name and a generous send multiplier per contact.

Shopify Email is the free layer almost every store should have running regardless of what else they pick.

Brevo wins on price for a small, frequent sender. Privy and Seguno fit stores that want popups or reviews bundled with email on one bill.

Sendlane and Drip suit stores with a large list or an ecommerce-only feature set willing to pay a real monthly floor for unlimited or high-volume sending.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best email marketing app for Shopify in 2026?
Klaviyo for most stores, free for 250 contacts and 500 emails a month, then priced by an on-site calculator once you enter a real contact count. Omnisend is the closest alternative with a published price instead of a calculator, from $16/mo. Mailchimp and Brevo suit stores that want every tier listed on the page before signing up. There is no single best app for every list size.
How much does email marketing cost on Shopify?
Free on Klaviyo, Omnisend, Mailchimp or Brevo's entry tiers, up to $350/mo on Mailchimp Premium or $499/mo on Brevo Professional for high send volume. Sendlane and Drip have no free plan and start at $100/mo and $39/mo. Shopify Email is free for the first 10,000 emails a month, then a flat per-thousand overage rate, checked on shopify.com, September 2026.
Is there a free email marketing app for Shopify?
Yes. Klaviyo, Omnisend and Mailchimp all offer a free plan capped at 250 contacts and 500 emails a month. Brevo's free plan has no contact cap, only a 300-email daily send limit. Shopify Email is free for 10,000 emails a month inside a paid Shopify plan. Seguno is free for stores with 250 or fewer subscribers.
Does Shopify have a built-in email marketing tool?
Yes. Shopify Email sends campaigns from inside the Shopify admin with no separate app or login, free for the first 10,000 emails a month on a paid Shopify plan, then $1 per 1,000 additional emails, checked on shopify.com, September 2026. It has less automation and segmentation than a dedicated app like Klaviyo or Omnisend.
Klaviyo vs Omnisend vs Mailchimp: which should I pick?
Klaviyo if you want the deepest Shopify data integration and are willing to check its calculator for a paid price once you outgrow the 250-contact free tier. Omnisend if you want a fixed, published price at every contact count instead. Mailchimp if brand familiarity matters and your send volume runs well above your contact count, since its send limit scales at 10 to 15 times contacts depending on the tier.
What counts as a billable contact for these apps?
Most apps here (Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Privy) bill on active or mailable contacts, people who can currently receive a marketing send, not your full customer list including unsubscribes. Brevo and Sendlane instead bill on emails sent, so an unlimited or large contact list costs nothing extra until you actually send to it. Check each vendor's own definition before comparing a quoted price across apps.
