Smart SEO Review 2026: Free Plan, Pricing and Alternatives

Smart SEO is a Shopify app from Sherpas Design that writes meta tags, alt text and product descriptions with AI, compresses images, adds JSON-LD structured data, and manages IndexNow and sitemaps. Its App Store listing describes it as SEO, AEO and GEO in one app, which means classic Google results and AI answers.

Toolradar data: Of the 259 SEO tools we evaluated in October 2026, only 81 of the 200 we rank have a free plan. A free tier is common in SEO software but far from universal, so Smart SEO's free plan is a real starting point.

Methodology: we read the Smart SEO App Store listing, its 955 reviews and the listings of the four rivals below, all checked on October 12, 2026. We quote only the prices and quotas those pages print, and our own arithmetic is labelled as ours. We did not install the app, so nothing here describes how well it works inside a store.

Smart SEO is a Shopify app that bundles on-page SEO, image optimization and indexing. The listing sorts its features into SEO (meta tags, alt tags, sitemap, noindex tags and JSON-LD), images (compression, alt text and file names), page speed, indexing through IndexNow, and broken-link checks.

It also lists two AI search tools: an LLM Catalog that helps AI assistants find your products, and an MCP server that lets AI agents read your store's visibility data.

The developer is Sherpas Design, based in France. If product copy is the job, compare the AI product description generators that write it without an SEO audit. The listing names Shopify Admin, Judge.me, Loox, ChatGPT and Claude among the tools it works with, and it is offered in 20 languages.

You install the app from the App Store and run it against your products, pages and images within your plan's quotas. The AI tools write meta tags, alt text and product descriptions, and the bulk tools on Pro and Business apply meta tags, alt tags and image changes across many pages at once.

Business adds bulk filename changes and a backlinks report, and Premium adds broken-link automation and the option to run AI generations on your own model key.

Removing the app is the step to get right. The developer's reply to a 2019 review on the listing says the supported route is the Remove Integration button on the app's Setup page. A merchant who deleted the app by hand reported leftover code, and the developer disputed that review, so use the Setup page first and check the theme after removal.

Smart SEO lists four plans on its App Store listing. Free is $0. Pro is $14.99 a month or $149.90 a year, Business is $24.99 a month or $249.90 a year, and Premium is $49.99 a month or $499.90 a year.

Each paid plan carries a 7-day free trial, and the annual price saves 17 percent against twelve monthly payments.

The quota gap is the detail to check before you pay. Pro, Business and Premium print their broken-link, image and AI generation allowances only under "Quotas during trial period".

On Pro that reads 100/1000 broken-link pages, 50/1000 images and 20/200 AI generations, and Premium reads 100/6000 pages, 50/5000 images and 20/1200 generations. The listing does not say what the second figure in each pair caps, and it gives no ongoing figure for those allowances on any paid plan.

Our arithmetic, not the vendor's: Pro billed yearly works out to $12.49 a month.

Plug in SEO's Lite plan at its monthly price comes to $359.88 a year, and Avada's Pro plan billed yearly costs $348 a year.

Smart SEO fits a store that wants free image and meta work now and a paid plan once the bulk tools matter. The free plan covers a first audit and a first image pass on a small catalog.

Pro's bulk meta tags, bulk alt tags and Search Console link are the reasons to pay, and they are worth testing in the trial before you commit to a year.

Skip Smart SEO if the catalog is large and you need every page audited. The free plan audits 20 pages and Business audits 500.

Premium is the only tier the listing shows with an unlimited audit, at the top of the price list.

Plug in SEO lists unlimited page scans on its top tier, at a higher monthly price, so compare the two on your real page count.
