Printify vs Gelato 2026: Base Costs, Plans and Shipping
Printify vs Gelato in 2026: Gelato+ is $29.99/mo against Printify Premium at $39/mo. Shirt base costs, store limits and US shipping compared.

Gelato is the better pick in 2026 for a US seller who will pay for a plan: Gelato+ costs $29.99/mo against $39/mo for Printify Premium, and its Bella+Canvas 3001 drops to $8.55 on the plan against Printify's $8.77. Printify is the better free option, with 5 connected stores instead of 2 and a catalog of 2,000+ products. Prices as published on both vendors' pages on 19 October 2026.
The split matters because most print-on-demand stores start free and only some ever subscribe. On the free plans the two are close on a single shirt, so the deciding factors are store count and catalog. Once you reorder enough to want a discount, Gelato's lower fee and slightly lower discounted shirt make it the cheaper subscription at every volume we priced.
Toolradar data: Toolradar, the software directory we run, tracks 11 print-on-demand tools as of 18 October 2026, and 45% of them are free, freemium or open source, per its print-on-demand list. Printify's yearly Premium rate ranks 54th of 131 e-commerce tools with a verified entry price, against a $29/mo median, per Printify on Toolradar, October 2026. Both vendors on this page sit in the free-to-start half of that category, so the real cost question is the plan fee and the per-order price, not an entry ticket.

Which has the lower base cost?
Gelato lists the lower shirt price, by a small margin. On the free plans, Gelato's US-made Bella+Canvas 3001 is $0.29 below the starting price in Printify's shirt guide, and on the paid plans the gap is $0.22 a shirt in Gelato's favor. Across 100 shirts a month that is about $22 to $29, real but not decisive on its own.
Printify's price is a range, not one number. Each product on Printify is made by one of its print providers, and each provider sets its own base cost, so the guide prints a starting price while Printify's own comparison table shows the same shirt at $11.29. Pick the provider, not only the platform: a seller who routes to a pricier provider for faster US delivery can end up paying more than on Gelato.
Gelato publishes one price per region instead. Its 3001 page lists $12.24 for UK production and $13.41 for Canada, so a store whose buyers sit outside the US should read the regional row it will actually use. Gelato's US row is the one most Retailpresso readers will pay.
When does each paid plan pay for itself?
Gelato+ pays for itself at a lower volume. Using each vendor's published pair of prices for the Bella+Canvas 3001, the discount saves $2.21 a shirt on Printify and $2.14 on Gelato. That sounds like a wash, but Gelato's fee is about $9 lower each month, so it needs fewer shirts to break even.
| Plan | Fee | Shirts a month to cover it | Shirts a year to cover it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Printify Premium, monthly | $39/mo | 18 | |
| Printify Premium, yearly | $299/yr | 136 | |
| Gelato+, monthly | $29.99/mo | 15 | |
| Gelato+, yearly | $239.88/yr | 113 |
These counts are our arithmetic on the published shirt prices and plan fees, before tax. A store selling 15 to 17 of these shirts a month is in the zone where Gelato+ already pays and Printify Premium does not.
Two caveats change the math for some stores. Printify bills state sales tax on top of the US Premium fee, capped at $3 a month on monthly billing per its help article, and Gelato adds applicable local taxes to Gelato+ for US customers. Both plans also discount by product, so a catalog heavy in mugs or posters will see a different saving than this shirt.
What 10 and 50 shirts cost each month
The table adds the shirt cost to the plan fee for a store selling only Bella+Canvas 3001s. Shipping comes on top and is covered in the next section.
| Monthly shirts | Printify Free | Printify Premium | Gelato Free | Gelato+ |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | $109.80 | $126.70 | $106.90 | $115.49 |
| 50 | $549.00 | $477.50 | $534.50 | $457.49 |
At 10 shirts a month, stay on a free plan: either subscription costs more than it saves, and Gelato Free is $2.90 below Printify Free. At 50 shirts, Gelato+ is the cheapest column, $20.01 below Printify Premium and $77.01 below Gelato's own free plan. The totals are our arithmetic and use Printify's starting shirt price, so a pricier Printify provider widens Gelato's lead.
How do shipping costs compare?
On one shirt, Printify ships for less. Printify's own comparison table puts US shipping for a Bella+Canvas 3001 at $3.99, for a landed cost of $15.28 against $15.68 on Gelato. Printify's shirt guide adds that a single domestic shirt typically ships for $3.50 to $5.00 and international orders for $8 to $15 or more, depending on the provider.
On multi-item orders, Gelato publishes the clearer rate. Its 3001 page charges $0.99 for each additional shirt to a US address, so a three-shirt order ships for $6.97. Printify's extra-item rates vary by print provider and sit in the catalog rather than on the pricing page, so check the provider you plan to use before comparing baskets.
Delivery times are published on Gelato's side: 4 to 6 business days for economy shipping to the US on the 3001 page. Gelato routes each order to a partner near the buyer, and this shirt alone is produced in 13 countries. Printify ships from its 140+ facilities, and speed depends on which provider you pick.
Stores, catalog and team access
Printify gives a free seller more room. Its free plan connects 5 stores, Premium raises that to 10 and Enterprise removes the cap. Gelato's free plan connects 2 stores and 2 account users, and Gelato+ lifts both to unlimited on its plan page.
That makes the choice simple for multi-shop sellers who will not subscribe. A seller with an Etsy shop, a Shopify store and a TikTok Shop fits Printify Free but not Gelato Free. A seller who will pay anyway gets unlimited stores on Gelato+ for less than Printify Premium's 10.
On range, Printify lists 2,000+ customizable products, while Gelato focuses on local production at scale through 250+ partners. For a store testing many product types, Printify's catalog is the broader starting point; for a store selling a tight range of apparel and wall art to buyers in several countries, Gelato's local network matters more.
Which one should you choose?
Choose Printify if you will stay on a free plan, need 3 to 5 stores without paying, or want the widest catalog. Its weaknesses are a pricier paid plan that needs 18 shirts a month to break even, and base costs that move with the provider you pick. The Printify review and Printify pricing cover the plan in depth, and Printify alternatives lists other routes.
Choose Gelato if you expect to subscribe, sell multi-item orders to US buyers, or ship to several countries. Its weaknesses are a 2-store cap on the free plan and a slightly higher single-shirt shipping rate. The Gelato review and Gelato pricing go further.

How we compared
Prices come from Printify's pricing page, Premium help article, shirt pricing guide and comparison page, and from Gelato's subscription plans page, Gelato+ fee table and Bella+Canvas 3001 product page, as published on 19 October 2026. Scenarios multiply each published shirt price by volume and add the published plan fee, before tax and shipping. Retailpresso did not place orders with either service for this page. Toolradar figures come from its print-on-demand list and Printify page, October 2026.
