Best POS Systems for Clothing Boutiques in 2026
Seven point-of-sale systems compared for apparel shops that juggle sizes, colors, seasonal buys and an online store, with a monthly cost worked out for a one-register boutique.
Shopify POS is the best POS for most clothing boutiques in 2026 because one catalog of sizes and colors serves the shop floor and the website; POS Pro costs $89 per location a month on top of a Shopify plan. Lightspeed Retail suits boutiques buying from many brands, Square for Retail is the cheapest start with a $0 plan, and Hike POS puts product variants on its entry plan. Prices checked on vendor pages, October 2026.

- 7 tools compared: Shopify POS, Lightspeed Retail, Square for Retail, Hike POS, KORONA POS, Clover, Epos Now
- Lightspeed Retail (best for: Multi-brand boutiques with deep inventory and frequent purchase orders): Basic $89/mo, Core $149/mo, Plus $289/mo; each includes 1 register; yearly billing saves up to 18%
- Square for Retail (best for: New boutiques that want to start free and add inventory tools as stock grows): Free $0; Plus $49/mo per location; Premium $149/mo per location; in-person 2.6% + 15¢ on Free
- Hike POS (best for: Single-store boutiques that want variants on the entry plan at a modest price): Essential $59/mo yearly or $69 monthly; Plus $99/mo yearly or $119 monthly; per outlet
A boutique's POS problem is not ringing up a sale. It is the matrix: one dress in four sizes and three colors is twelve SKUs, and every one has to be counted, reordered, marked down at season end and kept in sync with the website. A register built for cafes treats each of those as a separate item, and the owner ends up reconciling stock in a spreadsheet on Sunday night.
So we judged these seven on what an apparel shop does every week: variant handling, purchase orders to brands, returns and exchanges across channels, loyalty for repeat customers, and an online store that shares the same stock. The monthly fee is the smaller line for most shops, because card processing on every sale costs more than the software.
Retailpresso data: we priced one boutique with a single register taking $30,000 a month in card sales at a $75 average ticket (400 sales). On Square's Free plan that is $840 a month in processing; on Shopify Basic with POS Pro it is $948 once the subscriptions are added. The full breakdown sits in the pricing section below.

What it is
A POS system for a clothing boutique is the register software, card reader and back office that records each sale and keeps size and color stock counts current across the shop and, usually, an online store. Apparel-ready systems add variant matrices, purchase orders to vendors, markdown tools and exchanges that return one size and sell another in a single transaction.
Why it matters
Stock errors cost a boutique twice. A size that shows in stock online but sold in the shop this morning becomes a refund and an unhappy customer. A size that sits unsold because nobody saw the count becomes a markdown at the end of the season, straight out of margin.
The payments contract matters just as much. Several systems here tie you to their own processor, so the card rate is part of the price whether the plan page shows it or not. For the wider POS market beyond apparel, including restaurant systems, see our best POS systems guide.
Key features to look for
Pricing
Our one-register scenario: a boutique taking $30,000 a month in card sales at a $75 average ticket, or 400 sales. Square Free costs $840 a month, all processing (2.6% plus 15 cents per sale). Square Plus costs $859: $49 for the plan plus $810 at 2.5%. Square Premium costs $929 even though its rate is lowest, because the plan fee outweighs the saving at this volume. Shopify Basic billed monthly at $39 plus POS Pro costs $948 with Basic's in-person rate of 2.6% plus 10 cents.
The takeaway: at $30,000 a month, the plan fees decide less than the card rate does. Square Plus costs only $19 more than Free and adds the purchase orders a boutique needs. Lightspeed, Hike and KORONA publish software prices we could add, but their US card rates sit with their own payments products, so compare their total on a quote.
Prices verified in October 2026 on Square for Retail pricing, Shopify POS pricing and its App Store listing, Lightspeed Retail pricing, Hike pricing, KORONA POS pricing and Epos Now pricing. Toolradar profiles: Shopify POS, Lightspeed, Square, KORONA POS, Clover and Epos Now.
Methodology: we read each vendor's US pricing page, listed what every tier includes for apparel (variants, purchase orders, ecommerce, returns, loyalty), computed the one-register scenario where card rates are published, and ordered the list by fit for an independent clothing boutique. We did not run the systems ourselves; the ranking rests on vendor documentation.

The bottom line
Choose Shopify POS if your boutique sells online too: one catalog and one stock count outweigh its higher stacked subscription. Choose Lightspeed Retail if you buy from many brands and need purchase orders and landed costs. Start on Square for Retail if you want the lowest entry cost, and move to Plus once you place vendor orders. Hike and KORONA are solid single-store picks with clear per-outlet or per-terminal prices, while Clover and Epos Now need a quote before you can compare them.
