Shopify POS Pricing 2026: POS Pro Cost per Location
Shopify POS Pro costs $89/mo per location on top of a Shopify plan in 2026, with in-person cards at 2.4% to 2.6% + 10¢. Year-one cost for one store and for a chain.

Shopify POS Pro costs $89/mo for each store location, added on top of a Shopify plan that starts at $29/mo on Basic billed yearly ($39/mo billed monthly). In-person cards cost 2.6% + 10¢ on Basic, 2.5% on Grow and 2.4% on Advanced. A retailer new to Pro can lock a 12-month term at $67/mo per location, read on Shopify's pages in October 2026.
Every price on this page comes from Shopify's POS pricing page, its plan comparison table, the POS Pro yearly offer and the Shopify hardware store, read on 19 October 2026. This page covers the in-store side of the bill only. The online plans, themes and web card rates have their own breakdown in our Shopify pricing guide.
Toolradar data: of the 35 restaurant and retail POS tools tracked on Toolradar, the software directory we run, 11 offer a free plan and the median entry paid plan is $50/mo, as of October 2026. Shopify POS prices its full retail toolkit well above that median once the Pro fee sits on top of a plan.
Our view: the Pro fee is the line that decides whether Shopify is cheap or expensive for a physical shop. A seller running weekend markets pays nothing for in-person selling beyond the plan, while a permanent store with staff and stock pays the plan plus a per-location fee that never shrinks with volume.
Shopify POS pricing at a glance
| Plan | Billed monthly | Billed yearly | In-person card rate | Keyed-in rate | POS Pro |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $39/mo | $29/mo | 2.6% + 10¢ | 3.5% + 10¢ | Add-on, per location |
| Grow | $105/mo | $89/mo | 2.5% + 10¢ | 3.5% + 10¢ | Add-on, per location |
| Advanced | $399/mo | $359/mo | 2.4% + 10¢ | 3.5% + 10¢ | Add-on, per location |
| Plus | From $2,300/mo on a 3-year term | 1- or 3-year term only | 2.3% + 10¢ | 3.4% + 10¢ | 20 locations included |
Prices are in USD from Shopify's POS pricing page and plan comparison table, read in October 2026. The Pro fee is the same on Basic, Grow and Advanced, and Shopify's POS FAQ describes it as billed yearly. A merchant who takes card payments through another provider instead of Shopify Payments pays a third-party transaction fee of 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus.
New accounts get a 3-day free trial, then three months at $1/mo on Basic, Grow or Advanced. After that the list price applies. Picking yearly billing saves $120 a year on Basic and $192 on Grow against monthly billing, by our arithmetic on the printed monthly prices.
What happened to POS Lite?
Shopify no longer sells a product named POS Lite. Its pricing page now calls the free tier casual in-person selling, included with every paid plan at no extra charge. It covers taking card and cash payments, simple customer profiles and returns at the location where the item was bought, with limited staff access to the POS app.
POS Pro is the paid upgrade for a permanent store. The pricing page lists what it adds:
- Unlimited staff logins on the POS app, with roles and permissions per staff member.
- Returns and exchanges at any location, not only the store that made the sale.
- Inventory counts, purchase orders and low-stock alerts run from one place.
- Rich customer profiles with lifetime value and loyalty insights, plus clienteling tools.
- Retail reports and omnichannel flows such as buy online, pick up in store.
The split is fair to small sellers. A maker who sells at three fairs a year never pays for Pro, and a single-founder shop with no staff can run the included tier for a long time. The pressure comes from staff: Basic includes no additional staff accounts on the admin side, so a shop with two part-timers on the register either moves to Pro for unlimited POS logins or moves up a plan.
How much does POS Pro cost per location?
The list price is $89/mo for each location that runs Pro, on Basic, Grow and Advanced alike. Each store is billed separately, so three stores pay three fees, and a pop-up location left on the included tier pays nothing extra. The fee does not fall with volume: a store selling $5,000 a month pays the same as one selling $500,000.
Shopify also runs a POS Pro yearly offer for retailers who are new to Pro. It sets a 12-month term at $67/mo per location, paid monthly rather than up front, which Shopify values at $264 a year per location. The terms carry three conditions worth reading before signing:
- Cancel before the 12 months end and you owe the remaining monthly fees, unless you are upgrading to Plus.
- The term auto-renews, discount included, and Shopify sends a reminder before renewal.
- Merchants already paying for Pro are excluded, and a store on a Pro trial must claim the offer before the trial ends.
The offer adds hardware and a rebate. Each location on the yearly term gets a code for a Verifone Victa Mobile, regularly $449, for a $10 activation fee, and the device stays with you if you do not renew. A store that processes $10,000 through Shopify Payments within 90 days at a single location gets a $200 credit toward its Pro fees. Shopify also lists free migration and setup support, which it values at $1,500.
What one store pays in year one
The scenario is a single clothing shop taking $20,000 a month in card sales over 500 tapped or dipped transactions, on yearly plan billing unless stated. Year one counts twelve months of plan fees, the Pro fee and in-person processing. It is our arithmetic on Shopify's and Square's published rates, not a quote, and it leaves out hardware, taxes and online sales.
| Setup | Monthly software | Monthly processing | Year-one total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shopify Basic, no Pro | $29 | $570 | $7,188 |
| Shopify Basic + Pro at list | $118 | $570 | $8,256 |
| Shopify Basic + Pro yearly offer | $96 | $570 | $7,992 |
| Shopify Basic billed monthly + Pro | $128 | $570 | $8,376 |
| Shopify Grow + Pro | $178 | $550 | $8,736 |
| Square Free | $0 | $595 | $7,140 |
| Square Plus | $49 | $575 | $7,488 |
Pro at list adds $1,068 a year to this shop's bill, and the offer trims that to $804 plus a $200 rebate the store would earn in its first 90 days. Grow costs more than Basic here because its 0.1-point lower rate saves $20 a month at this volume while the plan costs $60 more. By our arithmetic Grow pays for itself on rate alone only past about $60,000 a month in in-person card sales, so most single stores move to Grow for its five staff accounts, not for the rate.
Square rates and fees come from Square's pricing page: Square Free charges 2.6% + 15¢ in person, and Square Plus costs $49/mo per location with 2.5% + 15¢. The 5¢ gap per transaction is why Square's processing line runs higher at 500 sales a month. Square wins this table on cost, and Shopify's case rests on one inventory for the website and the shop. The full matchup is in our Square vs Shopify POS comparison.
How does the bill change with more locations?
Each new store adds one Pro fee and nothing else on Basic, Grow and Advanced. A three-store chain on Grow billed yearly pays the plan price plus three Pro fees, $356 a month or $4,272 a year before processing, and ten stores on the same plan pay $979 a month. The subscription grows in a straight line with the store count, so the per-store cost never improves until the chain changes plan.
Ten is a ceiling worth planning for. Shopify's comparison table caps inventory locations at 10 on Basic, Grow and Advanced and lifts it to 200 on Plus. Warehouses and stockrooms count against that limit too, so a chain with eight shops and two warehouses is already at the edge.
Plus starts at $2,300/mo on a 3-year term and includes 20 POS Pro locations, with up to 200 when the merchant uses Shopify Payments. The table does not list a separate charge for locations beyond 20. For a ten-store chain, Plus costs $1,321 a month more than Grow with ten Pro fees. Its in-person rate of 2.3% is 0.2 points below Grow's, so by our arithmetic the move pays for itself once the chain processes about $660,000 a month in card sales, around $66,000 per store. Our Shopify Plus pricing breakdown covers the term lengths and the revenue-based fee.
How much does Shopify POS hardware cost?
The cheapest start is a phone: Shopify supports Tap to Pay on a smartphone, so a market seller can take cards without buying a reader. Everything else is bought outright from the Shopify hardware store, with free shipping and 30-day returns listed on product pages.
| Device | Price | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Tap & Chip Card Reader | $49 | Bluetooth and USB reader for contactless and chip cards, US only |
| Tap & Chip reader dock | $40 | Optional countertop dock for that reader |
| POS Hub | $69 | Connects printers, scanners and cash drawers to a tablet |
| Eddy Tablet Stand | $149 | Counter stand for an iPad running the POS app |
| HP Engage 2D G2 Scanner | $209 | Barcode scanner for the counter |
| OmniLink Receipt Printer | $289 | Epson receipt printer with Bluetooth |
| POS Terminal | $349 | Countertop card terminal |
| Verifone Victa Mobile | $449 | Handheld that runs the POS app, takes payments and scans barcodes |
A full counter built from the terminal, stand, printer, scanner and hub costs $1,065, plus the tablet you supply. A floor-walking setup is the Victa Mobile alone. The hardware price does not depend on the plan or on Pro, which keeps the comparison simple: pick the plan for fees and staff, then buy the devices once.
Is Shopify POS worth it against Lightspeed and Square?
Shopify POS is worth the Pro fee when the online store already runs on Shopify, because stock, customers and gift cards stay in one system with no sync app. A store that sells mostly over the counter and rarely online pays for a web platform it barely uses, and Square's free plan or a retail-first system covers it for less.
Lightspeed is the other serious option for a store with a deep catalog. Our Lightspeed vs Shopify POS comparison and the Lightspeed pricing page cover its plans, and the Lightspeed Retail review weighs its inventory tools. Clover, sold through banks as well as online, has its own Clover pricing breakdown. For a ranked view by store type, see the best POS systems, the best POS for clothing boutiques and the best POS for coffee shops. Square and Lightspeed also have Toolradar pages.
Which Shopify POS setup should a retailer pick?
Stay on the included in-person tier if you sell at events, run a stall or have no staff on the register. Basic with a $49 reader covers it, and the year-one table shows that setup within $48 of Square Free.
Add Pro to Basic when you open a permanent shop with staff, need exchanges at any location, or count stock by hand today. Take the yearly offer only if you are sure the store will trade for twelve months, since leaving early costs the rest of the term.
Move to Grow with Pro once staff need admin accounts or online sales pass the point where Grow's lower web rate pays, which our Shopify review and Shopify POS review walk through. Plan for Plus when the chain approaches ten stocked locations, because the cap arrives before the rate math does for most retailers.
How we built this page
We read Shopify's POS pricing page, plan comparison table, POS Pro yearly offer, hardware store and help center, plus Square's pricing page, on 19 October 2026, and took the category figures from Toolradar's restaurant POS statistics. We did not open a Shopify account or run a transaction for this page. Every year-one and break-even figure is our arithmetic on the published prices. We re-check the page when Shopify changes a plan, the Pro fee or the offer terms. Louis Corneloup, who founded Toolradar and Dupple, edited it.
FAQ
How much does Shopify POS Pro cost per location in 2026?
POS Pro is $89/mo for each location on Basic, Grow and Advanced, read on Shopify's POS pricing page in October 2026. It sits on top of the plan fee, so one store on Basic billed yearly pays $118 a month before card fees. Plus includes 20 Pro locations in its $2,300/mo starting price.
Is Shopify POS free?
Selling in person is included with every paid Shopify plan, with no POS fee. That included tier covers payments, simple customer profiles and returns at the original store, with limited staff access. Card fees still apply at 2.6% + 10¢ on Basic, and Pro features cost extra per location.
Is there a discount for POS Pro billed yearly?
Retailers new to Pro can take a 12-month term at $67/mo per location, paid monthly, through Shopify's POS Pro yearly offer. It auto-renews with the discount, and cancelling early means paying the rest of the term. The offer also includes a Verifone Victa Mobile for a $10 activation fee per location.
What are Shopify's in-person card fees?
In-person card payments cost 2.6% + 10¢ on Basic, 2.5% + 10¢ on Grow, 2.4% + 10¢ on Advanced and 2.3% + 10¢ on Plus. Keyed-in cards cost 3.5% + 10¢ on the first three plans and 3.4% + 10¢ on Plus. Using a third-party processor adds a separate Shopify transaction fee.
Do I need POS Pro for a small shop?
Not always. A shop with one person on the register, returns only at that shop and simple stock can run on the included tier. Pro earns its fee when staff need their own logins and permissions, when customers return items bought at another location, or when inventory counts and purchase orders run through the POS.
Is Shopify POS cheaper than Square?
For a store-only seller, usually not: at $20,000 a month in card sales our year-one scenario puts Square Free at $7,140 against $8,256 for Shopify Basic with Pro at list. Shopify narrows the gap when the same business also sells online, because one plan covers the website and the store.
